Variation in Tupi languages: Genealogy, language change, and typology
At least 40 spoken languages form the large tupi family in its subfamilies tupi-Guaraní, Mawé, Aweti, Arikém, Juruna, Mondé, tupari, Mundurukú, ramarama and Puruborá, providing a wealth of data for linguistic studies about variation – variation explained by genetic relations (common origin, ultimately from the presumed language ‘proto-tupi’) or by contact relations with other indigenous or non-...

متن کاملToward Integrating Cognitive Linguistics and Cognitive Language Processing
We present a system to comprehend natural language that combines cognitive linguistics with known properties of human language processing. It is built on Embodied Construction Grammar (ECG) and the Soar cognitive architecture. Its core is a novel grounded semantic parser. Experiments show the system produces actionable meanings and fulfills ten cognitive criteria we set out.
متن کاملVariation Adds to Prosodic Typology
Variation has not been a major concern of prosodic typologists. Consequently, most investigations are restricted to a single standard variety and cross-speaker variation is ignored or masked by statistical processing. The results are often assumed to be repre...
متن کاملIntroduction: Cognitive Issues in Natural Language Processing
From the very beginning, pioneers in computer sciences have tried to establish a link between practical issues and more fundamental ones, like language processing in the brain, knowledge representation or the nature of communication. Modeling language was supposed to open a window on the brain, or at least give an idea of how things can be processed by the brain. The famous Turing Test (?; ?) i...
